Women's Golf Tabbed Favorite: Hankinson Named Preseason Golfer of the Year

8/29/2019 11:03:00 AM

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- The Augustana women's golf program has been picked to win the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced by the league office Thursday. Hannah Hankinson has also been tabbed as the NSIC Women's Preseason Golfer of the Year for the second-straight season.

The Vikings received six first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and tallied 114 points, one point ahead of the defending NSIC Champions of Minnesota State. The Mavericks also received six first-place votes and 113 points.

The Vikings experienced unfamiliar waters last season after coming up short on their bid for a 10th straight NSIC title. Augustana looks to build off last season to make a run for a new streak in the coming years.

Hankinson is the reigning NSIC Women's Golfer of the Year. She finished third at the NSIC Golf Championships after shooting a three-round score of 237 (+21). At the Central Super Regionals, she tied for 15th place in a field of 66 golfers after she turned in a three-round score of 231 (+18).

The senior placed first in two events and had six top-five placings last season.

The Vikings return everyone from last year's team that sent two golfers to the Central Super Regionals and welcome in freshman Molly Stevens.

Augustana will begin their season at the Tracy Lane Memorial in Bemidji, Minnesota, on Sept. 9.

The three-round NSIC Women's' Golf Championship will take place this spring on April 24-26 at Dacotah Ridge in Morton, Minnesota.
