SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Following its first-place finish at the Tracy Lane Invite in Minnesota, the Augustana women's golf program will look to duplicate its success as it competes in the Golden Bear Classic Monday and Tuesday.
The Classic
This will be the second tournament for the Vikings of the fall season. There will be 10 NSIC teams at the classic with play opening up at The Jewel Golf Club starting on Monday at 10 a.m.
The Opponents
In addition to Augustana and Concordia-St. Paul, Minot State, Sioux Falls, Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, Winona State, MSU Moorhead, Bemidji State, Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota Crookston will also be competing.
The Vikings
The Vikings shot a two-round total of 634 (324/310) at the Tracy Lane Invitational to claim the team title.
Hannah Hankinson won NSIC Player of the Week honors after placing first with a two-round score of +4.
Alex Stone fired off rounds of 83 and 79 for a score of +18 (162) which tied her for fifth place.
McKayla Poppens carded an 85 and 82 and tied for 12th place after shooting +23. The Vikings won the tournament by 31 strokes over Minot State who finished at +89.
Player To Watch
Freshman Molly Stevens had an impressive debut as a Viking in Minnesota. The Northfield, Minnesota, native, tied for second place with a two-round score of 157 at the Tracy Lane Memorial. She shot a first-round score of 81 and followed it up with a 76 on the final day to take runner-up honors. Stevens finished with a +13 which was four ahead of fourth-place at +17.
One Last Thing
The Augustana women's golf program has been picked to win the NSIC. Hankinson has also been tabbed as the NSIC Women's Preseason Golfer of the Year for the second-straight season. The Vikings received six first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and tallied 114 points, one point ahead of the defending NSIC Champions of Minnesota State. The Mavericks also received six first-place votes and 113 points.
