Dominating First Half gives Viking Soccer First Road Win

Sylvia Fehr has scored a goal in three-straight games

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Augustana women's soccer team notched its first road win of the season on Sunday in a 3-2 victory at Northwest Missouri State. The Vikings tallied three goals, by three freshmen, in the first half to carry them to victory.

"I was definitely happy with the result," head coach Brandon Barkus said. "We still have some things to clean up and some work to do, but I am happy with the result."

Augustana kept relentless pressure on the Bearcats to start the game and it showed in the scorebook. The Vikings outshot Northwest Missouri State 19-5 in the first half and got on the board in the 19th minute when freshman Kelly Kleekamp buried her first collegiate goal.

Just four minutes later, freshman Sylvia Fehr continued her amazing start to her career with her third goal in her third collegiate game. Freshman Josie Arduser assisted on Fehr's goal, which marked the second time this season the duo connected on a goal. Senior Erin Schneiderhan also assisted on the goal.

Arduser was not done in the point column as she added an unassisted goal five minutes later to give the Vikings a 3-0 advantage. Arduser's goal made it three goals scored (all scored by freshmen) in under 10 minutes for the Vikings.

Sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner enjoyed a shutout first half while making three saves.

Although the Vikings outshot the Bearcats 16-9 in the second half, the Bearcats scored goals in the 67th and 76th minutes. The Vikings kept the Bearcats off the scoreboard over the final 15 minutes to preserve the 3-2 victory.

Overall, Augustana outshot Northwest Missouri 35-14 and placed 14 shots on goal. The 35 shots mark the third-most in a single game in the history of the program. Senior Grace Behm and Arduser each tallied nine shots.

Sophomore Meghan Kuntz saw action in net in the second half for the Vikings, marking four saves. Kuntz and Pueschner combined for seven saves.
