WAYNE, Neb. – The Augustana volleyball team fell 3-1 to No. 17 Wayne State on Tuesday at Rice Auditorium in Wayne, Nebraska. With the loss the Vikings fall to 8-3 overall while Wayne State moves to 10-1.

Augustana fell 25-22 to the Wildcats in the first set after a tough battle late in the set.

In the second set, the Vikings took an early 8-4 lead after an attacking error from the Wildcats forced them to take an early timeout. Wayne State would tie things up at 11-11 and would trade points back and forth. Back-to-back kills from Payton Rosendahl and Grace Haberland made the score 23-20 and force the Wildcats to call a timeout. Maddy Guetter and Haberland closed out the second set with back-to-back kills to take the second set 25-22.

Haberland had three-straight aces in the opening moments of the third set to tie the score at 5-5 but that would be the closest the Vikings would get in the third stanza. The Wildcats ran away with the 25-12 third set to go up 2-1.

The fourth and final set would be the same story for Augustana as they competed in the opening moments before Wayne State took control with the 25-16 fourth set and the match 3-1.

Haberland led the team with 12 kills on the night and also had 13 digs and three aces to earn her fourth double-double. Avery Thorson finished with a double-double 35 assists and 10 digs. Erika Bute recorded a team-high 28 digs.

Overall, the Vikings recorded 44 kills, 38 assists, six aces and 81 digs.
