Behm Scores Game-Winner Against UMary

The Vikings move to 2-0-1 in NSIC play

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's soccer team (4-1-1) won its first home conference game of the season when it defeated the UMary Marauders (2-1-1) 1-0 on Friday afternoon.

Senior Grace Behm scored the lone goal for the Vikings in the 58th minute of the match. UMary looked like it was going to clear the ball out of its defensive zone, but senior Peyton Stenzel intercepted a pass and quickly sent it to Behm who sent it to the back of the net for a 1-0 Augustana lead.

Augustana controlled possession in the second half and outshot the Marauders 9-2 to preserve the 1-0 final score.

Sophomore goalkeeper Claudia Pueshner only needed to record three saves to log her third shutout of the season and her second in as many games. Pueschner has now shutout eight of the 11 halves that she has played this season and owns 13 career shutouts.

Overall, the Vikings shot 14 times placing eight on goal, while the Marauders shot 10 times and placed three on goal. Behm accounted for seven of the Viking shots and placed five of them on goal.

"UMary came out firing," head coach Brandon Barkus said. "They are a physical team and are very aggressive, so I'm happy with this win."

Up Next
The Vikings take on Minot State (1-5-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Morstad Field.

"We are looking for a faster start on Sunday," Barkus said. "We are looking to bring a little bit more energy to the beginning of the game and are going to continue to try to get better."
