WINONA, Minn. – The Augustana men's basketball team dropped a 79-65 contest at Winona State Saturday evening. Junior
Tyler Riemersma tallied his second-straight double-double as he scored 12 points and secured 10 rebounds.
The Vikings grabbed an early lead, first at 3-2 as sophomore
Matt Todd sank his opening shot of the game, then at 5-2 thanks to a layup from sophomore
Michael Schaefer. However, the Vikings went cold for the next seven minutes as the Warriors embarked on a 16-1 run.
By time Augustana was able to score a field goal to stop the run, Winona State had built an 18-8 lead after Reimersma scored on a jumper in the paint. The Vikings were able to trim the WSU lead to six points with 5:01 remaining in the half but entered halftime trailing by 10 points at 36-26.
Riemersma tallied a pair of free throws to open the second half, but the eight-point deficit was the closest Augustana would get as the Warrior lead grew as big as 21 points in the half.
Todd led the Vikings with 16 points, a bounce back after Friday night marked his first game not scoring in double digits in NSIC action. Sophomore
Eric Tiedman came off the bench to grab five rebounds, tying a career-high.
The Vikings shot 23-of-66 from the field for 34.8 percent while the Warriors were 28-of-58 for 48.3 percent.
Caleb Wagner led Winona State with 18 points, nearly all 2-point field goals on 8-of-15 shooting.
The Vikings return to the Sanford Pentagon on Friday to host Northern State. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
