Mitby Tallies Career High as Vikings Run Past Wolves

Augustana holds Northern to season-low 44 points

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Hannah Mitby tallied a career-high 22 points and the Augustana women's basketball team forced 22 turnovers in a 73-44 win over Northern State Friday night inside the Sanford Pentagon.

Augustana has now won three-straight games to improve to 9-6 overall and 5-6 in the NSIC while Northern has its four-game win streak snapped to fall to 11-6, 7-3.

The turnovers were the name of the game for the Vikings as they scored 25 points off turnovers while the Wolves did not tally a single point off any of the eight Viking turnovers.

Coming out of the first quarter trailing 15-12, the Vikings outscored the Wolves 23-8 in the second quarter. Augustana used an 11-0 run to claim the lead, using two points to conclude the opening stanza and nine-straight to open the second. Mitby totaled six of those points including a layup to pull the Vikings with a point and a pair of free throws to grab a 16-15 lead.

From there, the Vikings were in cruise control entering halftime with a 35-23 lead. The third quarter was nearly a carbon copy to the second as Augustana outscored NSU 20-7 while holding the Wolves to 15.4 percent shooting with just two made field goals.

The Vikings entered the final quarter with a 55-30 lead and saw the advantage balloon to as many as 33 points before the final 73-44 score. The 44 points are the lowest the Vikings held an opponent to this year. The defensive effort also included holding Northern State to just 29.8 percent shooting on 14-of-47 field goal attempts.

In contrast, Augustana shot 43.3 percent from the field, sinking 29-of-67 field goal attempts. After Mitby's career-high, senior Abby Hora tallied 15 points.

Mitby's career night didn't end on the offensive end as she tallied six of the Vikings' 13 steals. Senior McKenzee Zilverberg also snagged a career-best in steals with three swipes.

Northern State was led by Lexi Wadsworth with 11 points.

The Vikings remain at home Saturday hosting MSU Moorhead inside the Sanford Pentagon. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
