SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana men's basketball team is set for the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament. The Vikings host St. Cloud State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. inside the Sanford Pentagon.
The Game
Augustana is the fourth seed in the NSIC South Division while the Huskies are the No. 5 seed in the north division. The two squads battled on Feb. 8, an 81-58 Augustana victory. In that contest,
Dylan LeBrun went off for 26 points while
Adam Dykman tallied 15 points. Augustana shot 59.3 percent from the field in the victory.
The Huskies
St. Cloud State is the five seed from the NSIC North Division, finishing with an 11-11 league mark and holding a 14-14 overall record. The Huskies, tied with an 11-11 league mark with Bemidji State, slid to the fifth slot after being swept by BSU this year. SCSU is coming off a weekend split of Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. The victory over UMC on Saturday snapped a four-game skid that started against the Vikings on Feb. 8.
The Huskies are led by the NSIC's third-leading scorer, Trevon Marshall and his 21.6 points per game. Marshall scored in double digits in all but three games this year and saw his points per game increase to 23.8 per outing in NSIC action. He is joined in double-figure scoring by Anthony Roberts and his 13.6 points and Ilya Tyrtyshnik and his 10.1 points per game.
Series Record - St. Cloud State leads, 48-42
The Vikings
Augustana is 18-10 on the season and finished the NSIC season with a 13-9 mark. The Vikings are on a five-game winning streak, having the streak started in the previous contest with the Huskies in early February. Augustana used a 15-point comeback in its latest game, a 77-73 win at Southwest Minnesota State while also knocking off the NSIC South Division Champion, Sioux Falls, this past weekend.
Tyler Riemersma has moved into the Vikings' team lead with 12.9 points per game while
Matt Todd tallies 12.4. LeBrun has positioned himself in third on the Vikings' scoring list, tallying 12.1 points per outing. Augustana averages 79.1 points per game while holding opponents to 72.3 points.
Riemersma remains the only player in the NSIC to average a double-double with his 10.3 rebounds per game.
One Last Thing
We've talked a lot about Riemersma's rebounding all year. However, it hit historic proportions as he tied the NSIC single-season record with 239 rebounds over 22 NSIC contests. He tied Alex Novak of MSU Moorhead from the 2010-11 season. In fact, it was a historic season for Augustana within the NSIC realm as the Vikings corralled 917 rebounds in league play, surpassing the record Sioux Falls set last season.
