GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Augustana men's tennis team worked for a split in its first dual action of the season Saturday. The Vikings opened the day with a loss to North Dakota before racking up a victory over Concordia College. Augustana is now 1-1 in dual action for the season.
Match One – UND 7, AU 0
The Vikings dropped the doubles point but not without a fight as the doubles duo of
Logan Barr and
Cade Damgaard battled for a 7-5 loss. In singles action,
North Knewtson in No. 5 singles and
Tyson Cowger in No. 6 singles both put up strong fights. However, Knewtson fell 6-3, 7-5, while Cowger dropped his match 6-4, 6-4.
North Dakota is 4-2 in dual action this season.
Match Two – AU 5, CC 2
The Vikings won the doubles point behind a 6-1 victory from Barr and Damgaard and a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles from
Frank Kelly and Jackson Stoutamire.
Augustana then won four of the singles matches with Barr claiming the No. 1 singles point 6-1, 6-1. After falling at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, the Vikings won the rest of the way beginning with Knewtson at 6-1, 6-1. At No. 5,
Tory Shafer claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win while
Frank Kelly prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Concordia College is 1-2 in dual action this year.
Up Next
Augustana welcomes Morningside to Sioux Falls on Friday. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club.
