SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana volleyball team used strength in numbers to topple the Peacocks of Upper Iowa, winning 3-1 (25-14, 25-20, 25-23, 25-14), inside the Elmen Center on Saturday afternoon.
Double-digits were the decider in the match, with three Vikings having 10 or more kills. Additionally, four Vikings had 10 or more digs.
Augustana is elevated to 13-8 on the season and 8-5 within the NSIC while Upper Iowa falls to 15-7 overall and 8-5 in the loop.
The Vikings came out hot in the first set jumping out to a 4-0 advantage. Junior Maddy Guetter started the set with back-to-back kills followed by a kill from freshman Jolie Stecher and senior Payton Rosendahl.
A late surge by Augustana proved to be too much for the Peacocks, scoring seven-straight points ending at 21-7 in favor of the Vikings.
The last three points for the AU came off kills by Reimann to claim set one, 25-14.
The Peacocks battled with the Vikings in the second set, sitting just two points behind Augustana at 21-19.
Guetter was the decider down the stretch having two kills and an ace to give Augustana a 2-0 lead in the match after the 25-20 second set.
Augustana looked to complete the sweep in the third set, holding off five set points before falling to the Peacocks in the third set, 25-23 to force a fourth set.
The Vikings found the same momentum they had earlier in the match as they found offense halfway through the set with two kills coming from Guetter, an ace by junior Erika Bute and an additional kill from Stecher to close the streak at 14-5.
The Peacocks and Vikings would trade points down the stretch but Augustana's big lead was enough to close the door on Upper Iowa, 25-14.
The Vikings were led by Guetter delivering 14 kills, Avery Thorson dished out 46 assists, and Erika Bute absorbed 20 digs.
Both Guetter and Thorson had double-doubles. Guetter paired her 14 kills with 15 digs and Thorson added 11 digs on top of her 46 assists.
