Augustana Soccer Sets Three Team Records in Win at UMC

CROOKSTON, MINN.-- The Augustana soccer team had a record-setting win against Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings scored nine goals, setting a new single-game record. The Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles were held scoreless for the entire 90-minute contest as the Viking's record on the season improves to 4-3-2 overall and 3-1-2 for NSIC play. Minnesota-Crookston's record becomes 1-8 total and 1-5 for NSIC conference action.

Alexis Legg kicked off the scoring for the Vikings with a goal in the first minute of play. Not even two minutes later, Morgan Keirstead increased the lead to two goals, in a sign of things to come for the AU offense. Keirstead and Legg both scored two goals each during the matchup. Carlie Kray, Mackenzie Ternes, Kenzie Geiger, Grace Douglas, and Annika Bard all recorded goals in the game. The previous record for goals in a single game was seven, achieved twice, in 2018 and 2003.

The Vikings also shattered the record for the total number of assists in a single game with 11. Seven assists in a single game was the record previously created in 2004. Sylvia Fehr tallied three assists in the game, also setting a new record for most assists from an individual in a single play. Fehr's assists in the game bring her total number this season to seven, one shy of the school record for a season which is held by teammate Josie Arduser

With 52 shots in today's contest, Augustana set a new record for the total number of shots in a game. Seventeen players from the Vikings had at least one shot during the match. Macie Haggerty led the team with nine shots during her 35 minutes of play.

Augustana's defense was impressive on the field today as the Vikings held the Golden Eagles to a single shot. Goalkeepers Jillian Barkus and Meghan Kuntz earned the combined shutout, the duo's second combined shutout on the year.
