Augustana Swimming and Diving Wins 12 Events at St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. – After starting their seasons on Friday in a dual meet, the Augustana swimming & diving teams were back in action Saturday, this time with a dual at St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Vikings picked up 12 event victories between the men's and women's squads highlighted by multiple victories from Kamryn Robarge, Taylor Beagle and Jackson Dircks.
 
"Day two of the weekend showed a lot of improved performances," Augustana head coach Lindsie Micko said. "Both the men and women were very competitive.
 
"We are all looking forward to swimming at home next weekend with continued improvement."
 
Beagle, the NSIC's Swimmer of the Year, continued to do Taylor Beagle things as she captured the 500-free in a time of 5:11.41 and the 200-IM in 2:11.79. In the free, she paced a race that saw Libby Breckon place runner up in a time of 5:26.80.
 
Robarge dominated the sprints, as she claimed the 50-free in 25.18 and the 100-free in 54.58. Erin Danielewicz placed second in the 50-free in 25.26, proved to be one of the closest races of the day.
 
On the men's side, Jackson Dircks prevailed in the 100-backstroke in 53.37 while winning the 200-yard version of the race in 1:55.80.
 
The other five event winners were Leona Coha (1,000-free), Xander Smith (100-free), Mason Kauffeld (200-breast), Steven Asmus (100-fly) and Pedro Borin (200-IM) while the women's 200-free relay team also claimed victory.
 
Coha's win came in a time of 10:39.66, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
 
Smith edged out the runner-up in the 100-free in .09 of a second as he claimed first in 49.70.
 
Kauffeld led a one-two Viking finish in the 200-breastroke by winning in a time of 2:11.06. That was exactly one second faster than Jacob Salas of Augustana.
 
Asmus won the 100-butterfly in 53.86 while Borin won the 200-IM in 1:58.91.
 
The relay team of Robarge, Meghan Mulvihill, Anna Schmidt and Makoa Montgomery claimed the victory in the 200-free in a time of 1:39.35 to conclude the evening.
 
Augustana is back in action Friday and Saturday with a TRI Invite taking place in the Midco Aquatic Center. Sioux Falls and St. Cloud State are the other two teams competing in the event.
