Augustana Volleyball Opens NSIC Tournament with Matinee Thursday Against CSP

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana volleyball team takes on No. 3 seed Concordia-St. Paul Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament inside the Sanford Pentagon.

The Game

Augustana finished its regular season inside the Elmen Center last weekend with a split, winning against Minnesota Duluth (3-1) on Friday and falling to No. 11 St. Cloud State (3-1) Saturday. Augustana's overall record is 18-10 and 13-7 within the NSIC. Concordia St. Paul, ranked No. 13 nationally, is 22-7 overall and 16-4 in the loop.

The two teams met earlier this season in St. Paul, Minn. on Oct. 16, where the Golden Bears won the match, 3-1.

About the Vikings

The Vikings are ranked third in the conference in team kills this season (1,425) as junior Maddy Guetter leads the charge having 362 kills. That is good for eighth in the conference. 

Augustana is also third in the conference for team total blocks with 241 this season. 

Sophomore Callie Hohenhaus and freshman Jolie Stecher both have over 100 blocks to their name this season, ranking seventh and eighth in the conference, respectively.

The Vikings are led by Guetter, averaging 3.73 kills per set. Avery Thorson dishes out 10.32 assists per set while Erika Bute garners 4.63 digs per set.

About the Golden Bears

Concordia-St. Paul secured the third seed in the NSIC tournament after winning the final two matches of the regular season against UMary (3-1) on Friday and Minot State (3-0) on Saturday.

The Golden Bears are led by Jasmine Mulvihill who averages 3.69 kills per set, Ellie Veldman and her 8.00 assists per set and Tori Hanson with 4.54 digs per set.

Up Next

The winner of the match will advance to the semifinals to face either the No. 2 seed  Winona State or the No. 7 seed Upper Iowa on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
