Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 13 Viking Basketball Soars Past Grand View, 91-75

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – It was a 2-0 weekend for the Augustana men's basketball team as it defeated Grand View 91-75 Saturday evening inside the Elmen Center. The Vikings paced four players in double-figure scoring to move to 6-1 on the season. Grand View, also the Vikings, remains 5-2 after playing Saturday's game as an exhibition.

After a sluggish start for AU, the Vikings turned things around and took their first lead of the game at 19-18 with 9:36 remaining in the first half. The lead came courtesy of an Alex Distras 3-point basket with an assist from Tyler Riemersma.

Grand View secured the lead back at 30-25 with 5:53 on the clock, but again the Vikings regained the lead, this time at 32-31 on a Jameson Bryan jumper. Augustana would enter halftime leading 39-33 after Dylan LeBrun isolated his defender at the end of the half to sink a long 2-point basket.

The second half was all Augustana, outscoring Grand View 52-42 in the half. The biggest lead of the game came courtesy of a 14-2 Augustana run. Augustana took a 60-49 advantage and pushed it to 72-51 on a run that was bookended by a pair of Akoi Akoi 3-point baskets. In the run, Akoi had eight points, Riemersma four and Adam Dykman two.

That was all the cushion the 13th ranked Vikings would need en route to the 91-75 win.

Isaac Fink tallied a team-high 17 points while LeBrun scored 14. Riemersma had his fourth double-double of 2021-22 with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Dykman also reached a double-digit rebound plateau with 10 boards as Augustana out-rebounded Grand View 35-22.

The home Vikings shot 50.8 percent from the field while the visiting Vikings nearly equaled that with a 50 percent shooting percentage.

Augustana also had another strong game without turning the ball over, committing just six while forcing Grand View into 10. However, the Vikings turned those 10 turnovers into 14 points. In another statistical battle, Augustana won the battle of offensive rebounds, scoring 21 second-chance points on 10 offensive rebounds. Grand View? They totaled just five second-chance points.

Heading back to NSIC action, Augustana will play its first game inside the Sanford Pentagon on Thursday. In a schedule change for the NSIC in 2021-22, the men's team will play the first game of the doubleheader with a 5:30 p.m. tip against Sioux Falls.
