Augustana Women’s Basketball ‘Sees’ Past Briar Cliff, 77-64

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball team ended the week on a high note defeating Briar Cliff 77-64 inside the Elmen Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings improve to 3-1 on the season while the Chargers move to 5-3.

Lauren Sees was perfect from the field with just over five minutes played, sinking three 3-pointers to give the Vikings an 11-point lead heading into the media timeout, 17-6.

An old-fashioned three-point play by Vishe' Rabb closed out the scoring for the Vikings in the first quarter, giving Augustana a 26-15 lead.

Sees remained perfect in the second quarter, sinking her fourth 3-pointer of the game, as the Vikings lead ballooned to 18 at the 7:35 mark in the second quarter.

Just over a minute later, Sees hit her fifth triple of the game to remain perfect from the field and set a career-high for 3-point field goals made.

Michaela Jewitt made her career-debut coming in the second quarter and at the 3:08 minute mark, she scored her first points as a Viking, knocking down a triple.

The Vikings headed to the locker room shooting 54.5 percent from the field, going into halftime leading 49-29.

Augustana came out four-for-four to start the third quarter. Janelle Shiffler started the scoring getting a layup while the next time down the floor, Kenzie Rensch knocked down a triple.

Sees and Aislinn Duffy paired for layups to extend the lead to 58-29.

Johanna Miller scored on the block off a pass from Rabb with just over a minute to go in the third quarter to make it 65-37.

The Vikings held Briar Cliff to 26.7 percent from the field in the third quarter.

Augustana's lead began to shrink in the fourth quarter, having just four points compared to the Chargers 15 heading to the media timeout.

Out of the media timeout, Rensch would take matters into her own hands, getting a steal at halfcourt and taking it in for a layup to give the Vikings a cushion at 71-58.

Augustana was able to hold off the late charge from the Chargers down the stretch, with the final buzzer sounding in favor of the Vikings, 77-64.

The Vikings were led by Sees with 19 points, Jennifer Aadland and Aislinn Duffy both accumulated nine rebounds.

Two additional Vikings were in double-digit scoring with Aadland having 13 points and Rabb with ten.

The Chargers were led by Madelyn Deitchler with 14 points and Mya Hendry with seven rebounds.
