Augustana Women’s Basketball Edged by Concordia-St. Paul

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball team came up short of defeating Concordia-St Paul, 73-71, on Saturday night, inside the Sanford Pentagon.

Aislinn Duffy picked up where she left off last night, scoring the Vikings (3-5, 0-5) first seven points for AU, starting with a make from downtown followed by a layup and two free-throws to lead the Golden Bears (7-2, 3-2) 7-3.

Vishe' Rabb would score three-consecutive points for the Vikings following the media timeout converting on a driving layup then making a free-throw from the charity stripe on the next possession to make it 18-11 in favor of Augustana with 2:15 to go in the first quarter.

Rabb would close out the quarter for the Vikings hitting two free-throws to make it 22-13 heading into the second quarter.

Through the first half of the second quarter, the Vikings knocked down three triples with the first coming from Jennifer Aadland with Lauren Sees connecting on the next possession.

Duffy put away her second shot from long range with 6:16 remaining to give Augustana its largest lead at 33-20.

Concordia-St. Paul shot 56.3 percent from the field in the second quarter, bringing them back into the game trailing Augustana by three at 39-36 heading into halftime.

The Golden Bears started the third quarter with an 11-2 run to force head coach Dave Krauth to take a timeout with 6:47 remaining in the quarter.

Despite a slow start offensively for the Vikings, Augustana closed out the quarter trailing by four, 60-56.

A basket on the block by Aby Phipps brought the Vikings back to within striking distance trailing 67-65 with 3:52 remaining.

Michaela Jewett made it a one possession game with under a minute to go, sinking a triple to make it 71-69.

With five seconds left in the game, Augustana was down two points with Concordia-St. Paul inbounding at half court. Sees got the steal and attempted the game winning shot but came up just short as the Golden Bears escaped with the victory.

Duffy tallied a double-double for the second-consecutive night to lead the Vikings with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Both Sees and Rabb also had double-figure scoring with Sees having 17 points and Rabb accounting for 12.

The Golden Bears were led by Sydney Zgutowicz with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
