MARSHALL, Minn. -- The Augustana Women's Basketball team ran into a lethal Southwest Minnesota State team who hit 11 shots from long range to pass Augustana 72-58 inside the R/A Facility on Saturday night.
Lauren Sees led all scorers heading into the media timeout in the first quarter, hitting two triples within the first few minutes of play to give Augustana a 12-7 lead.
Vishe' Rabb, who made her first start since Dec. 6, 2019, would hit a 3-pointer at the 1:35 mark in the first to give Augustana (3-3, 0-3) a three-point advantage at 15-12.
The Mustangs would make a basket from the charity stripe before the end of the first quarter with the Vikings still leading 15-13.
In the second quarter, Southwest Minnesota State (5-2, 2-1) made three from long range while shooting 58.3 from the floor, outscoring the Vikings 18-6 to cause head coach Dave Krauth to take a timeout with 4:18 to go in the half as Augustana trailed 31-21.
Out of the timeout, Sees would hit from long range with the assist by Rabb to close the gap to seven points.
Augustana would head into halftime down 40-27, with Sees and Rabb accounting for 18 of the Viking's 27 points.
The Vikings hung with the Mustangs leading into the media timeout of the third quarter, scoring seven points to SMSU's nine points. However, the Mustangs maintained a 15-point cushion at 49-34.
Augustana could not catch a break, as the Mustang's hit back-to-back baskets from long range to cause a Viking timeout down 57-36 with 2:05 remaining in the third quarter.
Despite the Vikings outscoring the Mustangs in the fourth quarter, Augustana did not have the real estate to pull off the comeback, falling to SMSU 72-58.
Sees led all scorers with 16 points, Rabb accumulated her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mustangs were led by Sadie Stelter with 13 points while Abuk Akoi had 12 rebounds.
