Viking Softball has Five Named to NFCA All-Region Team

LOUSIVILLE, Ky. – The Augustana softball team had five members named to the NFCA Division II Central All-Region Team announced Wednesday. Augustana had a region-high five student-athletes selected with four to the first team and one to the second.
 
Senior Kendall Cornick highlights the NFCA Central All-Region Team as a top-30 finalist for the Schutt/NCFA Player of the Year. The native of Mason City, Iowa, has hit to a staggering .492 batting average in 2021 while totaling 14 doubles, six home runs and a .554 on-base percentage. The right fielder is also among the nation's best, ranking second, with 32 steals.
 
Joining Cornick on the first team are pitcher Ashley Mickschl, center fielder Mary Pardo and DP/Utility non-pitcher Torri Chute.
 
Mickschl is 22-2 on the season in the circle while holding opponents to a .189 batting average. The Woodbury, Minnesota, native holds 19 complete games on her resume and recorded a perfect game on April 24 against MSU Moorhead.
 
Pardo, hailing from Andover, Minnesota, is among the nation's best with 17 home runs. That is tops in the NSIC and fifth in Division II. She has recorded 44 hits and, drawn 17 walks and totaled 40 runs batted in.
 
Chute, the NSIC's Freshman of the Year, leads the league with 55 RBI in 2021 and holds a .712 slugging percentage. The native of Woodbury, Minnesota, has recorded 52 hits, 13 doubles and nine home runs.
 
On the NFCA Central Region Second Team is left fielder Abbie Lund. The Waterloo, Iowa, native is third on the Vikings' roster with a .402 batting average, racking up 47 hits and a .427 on-base percentage. She is a Gold Glove winner for the NSIC with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
 
NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams and all honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2021 NFCA Division II All-America squads.
 
The 2021 NFCA Division II All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, May 25.
