Tickets for Augustana Hall of Fame Now Available

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After a year's delay, the 2020 Augustana Athletics Hall of Fame Class will officially be inducted on Friday, Sept. 17, in a banquet taking place at 5 Oaks Event Venue in Sioux Falls. A social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with a banquet and program taking place at 6:30 p.m.

The 51st Hall of Fame class includes six inductees that have been previously announced while the 2011 National Champion Women’s Cross Country Team will also be inducted commemorating the 10th anniversary of the national title. 

In addition, the 2011 softball team and three other award winners will be honored. More information on the inductees and honorees can be found below.

The Hall of Fame class will also be introduced at halftime of the Augustana football game the following day as the Vikings take on MSU Moorhead. Tickets for the contest can be purchased at www.GoAugie.com/Tickets. Single game tickets will be on-sale at a later date.

The former Kelly Connolly was a standout in the circle for the Augustana softball team, earning three NFCA All-Regional accolades, including two first-team selections. Over her career, she tallied a 1.14 ERA, the fourth lowest in Augustana softball history. She earned 88 wins including 31 by shutout. She holds the Augustana school record with 99 complete games. Over her career, the Vikings never missed the NCAA Tournament.

Roman Evans

Roman Evans was exceptional on the hardwood for the Vikings basketball program before joining the football team for his final year of eligibility in 2000. On the basketball court, Evans was named the NCC Newcomer of the Year and NCC Defensive Player of the Year in addition to earning NCC All-Conference accolades. In the 1998-99 season, he led the conference in steals and assists, while setting the single season record for assists with 106. Transitioning to football, Evans led the Vikings with six interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. He was named to the All-Lutheran Football Team following the season.  

Pat Graham set the standard for Augustana quarterbacks despite playing in just 21 games. He ranks eighth all-time in total offense with 5,843 yards and set the pass attempts record for two-straight years. His 283.7 yards per game in 1995 ranks fifth all-time, a number that was the single-season record at his graduation. His career mark of 268.4 yards passing per game is the Augustana record over a career. He tallied a record-setting game on Oct. 28, 1995 against Minnesota State when he was 41-of-62 for 564 yards, all program-record marks.

Bruce Haroldson

Bruce Haroldson was a three-sport standout for the Augustana, competing in men’s basketball, men’s golf and baseball. He ranked second on the Vikings in scoring in 1958, while helping the team to its then-best finish in the NCC with a 7-5 league mark. He ranked seventh in scoring in the NCC with 13.9 points per game.

A three-time All-American, Todd Kendle placed fourth, fifth and third at the NCAA Wrestling Championships from 1987-89, respectively. He garnered the NCC Championship in 1989 at 167 pounds and holds the Augustana record with 22 tech falls over his career. He concluded his Viking career 14th all-time with 102 victories including a 31-win season as a senior.

Carley Roach

The former Carley Roach is the first Viking women’s golfer to earn induction into the Augustana Athletics Hall of Fame. A four-time NCC honoree, she was the NCC Medalist in 2005 with rounds of 82-76-73-231. The following year, she won the 2006 NCAA Division II Regional Championship and was an Honorable Mention to the National Golf Coaches Association All-America teams in 2006 and 2008.

The Vikings cross country team in 2011 claimed the program’s first National Championship and Augustana’s second overall team title. On a snowy Plantes Ferry Athletic Complex course, Augustana tallied 75 points to win the title with all five point scorers earning All-America honors. The seven members competing in the National Championship race were: Leah Hansen, Runa Falch, Kristin Brondbo, Kyle Blakeslee, Kelly Kougal, Annie Pfiefle and Maddy Jourgensen. Additional team members included Leah Black, Megan Brown, Megan Erspamer, Kelsey Junget, Molly Kokesh, Alyssa Schmidt, Gabi Swoboda and Kaitlyn Young.

2011 Cross Country Team

Along with the six inductees, Augustana will honor the 2011 softball team along with three other award winners.

The 2011 softball team claimed the second of two-straight NSIC Championships with a 22-3 league record and compiled a 50-11 overall record. Traci Fransen and Jenny Brown each earned All-America accolades while five Vikings garnered all-region honors. Head coach Gretta Melsted was named the NSIC Coach of the Year.

The Ole Odney Alumni Coach of the Year is Brad Salem, a 1992 graduate of Augustana. Salem spent the past 10 years at Michigan State, coaching various position groups before serving as the offensive coordinator in the 2019 season. From 2005-09, Salem was the head coach at Augustana where he led the Vikings to back-to-back appearances in the Mineral Water Bowl.

The Lefty Olson Award for lifetime service and achievement for athletics/athletic administration will be awarded to Peggy Kirby, who just retired as the Augustana women’s golf head coach after 17 years. Kirby guided the Vikings to 10 conference championships and six region championships over her career. 

Recipients of the Milt and Clara Harvey Award are cited for outstanding contributions of time, service and financial support to Augustana athletics. This year’s recipients are Dennis and Julie Anderson. Dennis, a 1978 graduate, and Julie, a 1979 graduate, have supported Augustana for over 30 years. Dennis is a former board of trustee and is the CEO of First Dakota Title while Julie is retired from the Sioux Falls School District.
