SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--The Augustana women's golf team begins its season in Bemidji, Minnesota, with the Tracy Lane Invitational on Monday hosted by Bemidji State University. The Vikings will play in their first tournament of the year after winning the NSIC Championship this past spring.
The Vikings
Augustana is coming off of another victorious NSIC Championship season. The Vikings won their 10th NSIC Championship in the past 11 years. They tied for sixth place overall at the NCAA Super Regional, the 11th time since 2008 AU has played in the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Natalie Young was named the Vikings Preseason Player to Watch. Young is one of three seniors returning to the roster for the 2021-22 season. She ranked sixth in the NSIC in the spring with a stroke average of 80.4 shots per round. Young finished in the top-10 three times, and out of the top-10 finishes, three of them were top-five. She was also selected as a First Team All-NSIC golfer following the season.
Junior Molly Stevens led the Vikings with a stroke average of 79.5 last spring. Stevens competed in all seven events and 16 rounds of golf. She also had an impressive five top-10 showings, two of which being top-five finishes. Stevens earned second-place finishes at both the Wildcat Classic and the Augustana Spring Invite.
There are three new additions to the roster for the season. Head coach Coralee Jorgenson added Annika Stensrud (Glenwood, Minn.), Shannon McCormick (Sioux Falls, S.D.), and Masy Mock (Mitchell, S.D.).
The Season
Augustana will compete in five events during the fall season. The team begins its season on the road in Bemidji, Minnesota at the Tracy Lane Invitational on Sept. 13-14.
The season continues in Marshall, Minnesota at the Mustang Invitational hosted by Southwest Minnesota State University on Sept. 25-26.
Augustana hosts the Augustana Invitational Oct. 2-3. The tournament will be held at Elmwood Golf Course.
On Oct. 18 and 19, the Vikings head to Warrensburg, Missouri, to take part in the Midwest Classic, hosted by Central Missouri.
Augustana's final event of its fall season will be The Tulsa Cup in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Vikings will compete in the event that is hosted by Rogers State on Oct. 24-25.
The Vikings will begin their spring 2022 season in Palm Desert, California on March 12-13. Augustana hosts its second event of the season with the Augustana Spring Fling.
