SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Augustana soccer made its home debut for the season at Morstad Field on Friday. The Vikings tied the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears 1-1 after 110 minutes of play. Both goals were scored in the second half, with Augustana striking first. The lead turned into a tie after a goal from a corner kick by Concordia-St. Paul.
The draw moves the Vikings to 1-2-1 on the season while the Golden Bears hold the same record.
Freshman Macie Haggerty scored her first-career goal in an Augustana uniform in the 60th minute of the game. Haggerty knocked one into the left-upper corner of the goal with her left foot. The goal was assisted by junior Sylvia Fehr after she beat the defender and crossed the ball from the edge of the box. Fehr's assist marks her second of the season, after picking one up last weekend at Nebraska-Kearney.
The Golden Bears knotted the game off a corner kick in the 74th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Barkus made a season-high 10 saves to hold the Golden Bears to a single goal. Barkus faced a direct shot during the second half and made the save by lunging forward and punching the ball over the net to stop an attack by Concordia-St. Paul.
Augustana tallied 11 shots, eight of which were on goal. Concordia-St. Paul had 23 total shots, with 11 being on goal. Six players from the Vikings recorded at least one shot on goal during the contest.
The Augustana soccer team returns to the pitch for its second game of the weekend on Sunday. The Vikings host the Minnesota State Mavericks at 1 p.m. at Morstad Field for the "Let's Get Loud" promotional game for AU Soccer.
