Augustana Volleyball Heads North for Conference Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana volleyball team, after a weekend of NSIC play in the Elmen Center, heads back out on the road, this time heading to Minot and Bismarck, North Dakota.

The Vikings will face Minot State at 6 p.m. on Friday night and UMary at 2 p.m. Saturday.

About the Beavers

Bemidji State is currently 0-10 on the season and 0-5 within the NSIC. Most recently, the Beavers dropped conference matches against Upper Iowa (3-0) and No. 11 Winona State (3-0) in their home-opener. 

The Beavers are led by Alexandra Koontz with 2.06 kills per set, Sophia Peterson with 4.81 assists per set and Tea Boeckel accumulating 2.18 digs per set.

About the Marauders

UMary holds a record of 2-11 overall and 0-5 within conference play. Most recently, the Marauders lost conference matches coming against Northern State, (3-1). UMary then dropped contests against No. 11 Winona State, (3-0) and Upper Iowa (3-0).

The Marauders are led by Kennedy Drewis garnering 2.43 kills per set, Kameron Selvig averaging 4.77 assists per set and Kaia Sueker earning 4.15 digs per set.

About the Vikings

Augustana is 8-5 overall and is currently 3-2 within the NSIC. The Vikings are coming off a home-opening weekend where Augustana swept both Bemidji State (25-9, 25-19, 26-24) and Minnesota Crookston (25-23, 25-14, 25-18). 

Quite possibly the highlight of the weekend was senior Avery Thorson surpassing 2,500 assists, currently sitting at 2,531 and No. 8 in the record books for Augustana.

AU had strength in numbers in the weekend sweep with eight different Vikings accumulating kills in the win against Bemidji State and seven different Vikings accumulating kills in the victory against Minnesota Crookston.

Augustana is led by Maddy Guetter accounting for 3.87 kills per set, Thorson racking up 9.98 assists per set and Erika Bute garnering 5 digs per set. 

One last thing

Along with leading the Vikings in total digs and digs per set, Bute also leads the conference in digs per set (5.06) good for 41st in the nation and 24th in the nation in total digs (248).
