Viking Soccer Travels to Northern Minnesota for NSIC Contests

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Augustana soccer hits the road and heads north this weekend to take on Bemidji State and Minnesota-Crookston for NSIC play. The game against the Bemidji State Beavers will be at 7 p.m. under the lights on Friday night. The team then heads west to Minnesota-Crookston to take on the Golden Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Games

The Vikings are coming off of a four-game homestand at Morstad Field. Augustana is unbeaten in NSIC action with a record of 2-0-2. The team's total record this season is 3-2-2.

Bemidji State's record is 6-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in NSIC conference play. The Beavers were slated to finish fourth in the NSIC Preseason coaches poll.

Minnesota-Crookston is 1-6 overall and 1-3 in NSIC conference action. In the NSIC Preseason coaches poll, the Golden Eagles were tabbed to finish 16th, respectively.

The Beavers

Bemidji State is nationally ranked at No.13 in the Division II poll from the United Soccer Coaches organization. The Beavers are the only team in the poll that hail from the NSIC conference. 

Bemidji State's only tie came after 110 minutes of play at Minnesota State, a team Augustana defeated 1-0. 

Senior Sara Wendt leads Bemidji State with nine goals this season. Wendt averages 3.86 shots per game, and has recorded at least one shot during every game this season for the Beavers. Redshirt senior Allyson Smith leads BSU with 36 shots, 19 of which were shots on goal.

The Beavers have three goalkeepers on their roster, and all three have played in at least one game at this point in the season. Alyssa Stumbaugh leads the team with 15 total saves and four wins. Bemidji State has only allowed seven goals against them.

The Golden Eagles

Minnesota-Crookston's Abby Fettinger is leading the Golden Eagles in shots on goal this season with a total of nine. Fettinger scored the game-winning goal in UMC's lone victory against MSU Moorhead.

Morgan Laplante, Lanie Padelford, and Abby Fettinger have each recorded one goal this season for the Golden Eagles. 

Goalkeeper Abby Olsen has started in goal for UMC consistently this season. Olsen has recorded 56 saves against opponents overall. 

The Vikings

Augustana is looking to push momentum into the matchups as the team hits the road for conference action for the first time this season. Junior Sylvia Fehr currently leads AU in shots on goal and assists after picking up an assist on freshman Sierra Barkus' goal against Northern State last Sunday.

Alexis Legg, Annika Bard, and Sierra Barkus all have two goals on the sheet for Augustana this season. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Barkus has started in net for the Vikings during all matches this season. Barkus has an impressive save percentage of 0.821 and has faced 77 shots on goal during play.
