SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana swimming & diving team competed against Division I South Dakota State on Friday night.
The Viking women, freshly minted as the No. 8 team in NCAA Division II, topped South Dakota State 189-109 while the Viking men fell, 207-87
"It was another great night of racing for our teams," said head coach Lindsie Micko. "On the women's side, our depth really showed throughout all of the events and our relays have been as good as we've ever been.
"On the men's side, we continue to race well against more experienced teams. Racing strong teams will continue to make us better for our end of the year meets."
Augustana totaled 12 event wins with strong individual and relay performances.
Freshman Clare Duplissis led the Vikings on the diving end, placing first in the springboard event. She posted a score of 210.10 in the 1-meter followed by teammate Kate Robbins, a sophomore, who placed second with a score of 199.30. Robbins took second place in the 3-meter with a score of 183.75 leading AU in the event.
Other strong individual performances came courtesy of freshman Ella Ward-Zeller who placed first in the 100 back with a finishing time of 57.29. Ward-Zeller also had strong first place wins in the 200 back with a finishing time of 2:05.46 and the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.86.
To aid her teammates, sophomore Meesha Montgomery had highlighted performances in multiple events. Montgomery took second place in the 100 free with a final time of 52.60 leading the way for AU swimmers in the event. She also took hold of second place in the 200 free with a final time of 1:55.64.
Montgomery saw a top four finish in the 100 butterfly as well as a team win in the 400 free relay. The relay squad of Montgomerey, Amaya Street, Bryn Greenwaldt, and Kamryn Robarge swam home first place in the relay with a finishing time of 3:31.10. The relay defeated runner-up SDSU substantially by a 2.5 second margin.
Sophomore Nesrine Jelliti saw incredible wins in the 100 breaststroke with a first place finish and finals time of 1:05.11. Jelitti also saw first place wins in the 200 breast with a finals time of 2:25.41 and in her 200 yard medley relay with teammates Greenwladt, Robarge, and Angelina Chan who placed a finals time of 1:45.11.
Chan saw success in the 100 butterfly with a first place finish in a time of 57.77. She also saw second place finishes in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.11 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.88.
For the men, the Vikings saw Mason Kauffeld, a sophomore, take home a first place win in the 200 breaststroke with a finals time of 2:10.29. Kauffeld also swam in an impressive second place finish in the 200 IM in a time of 1:59.20 leading AU in both events.
The men were also highlighted by sophomore Pedro Borin. Borin swam home the first place finish in the 200 butterfly with a finals time of 1:55.43. He also saw a successful finish in the 100 butterfly coming in second place with a time of 50.96 finishing first for AU. Borin placed in the top three in all events he competed in.

Augustana's women are next in action Oct. 21-22 in a quad-meet with MSU Moorhead, Sioux Falls and Northern State. The Viking men next make a splash Nov. 4-5 as part of the Coyote Extravaganza (along with the Viking Women). Both events take place in the Midco Aquatic Center.
