MARYVILLE, Mo.--The Augustana women's golf team placed first at the Midwest Classic on Tuesday. The Vikings finished over No. 15 Central Missouri in the tournament and were led by Molly Stevens. Shannon McCormick, Masy Mock, Lauren Tims and Lanie Veenendall joined Stevens on the team of five.
Stevens placed in a tie for first place in the tournament and headed to a tie breaker with Allison Comer of Nebraska-Kearney. The two played three holes and Stevens emerged as the individual medalist at the tournament.
Quotable from head coach Coralee Jorgensen
"Sometimes you have opponents to overcome but, once again, all teams had to battle the weather, the wind and cold. So much of this victory was simply grit. They were grinding for 27 holes Monday and then 9 holes today. Molly went 3 extra holes to win in sudden death. She had to keep grinding! We had a happy team playing with smiles throughout the tournament!"
