Viking Volleyball Preps for Mustangs & Cougars

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana volleyball is set to host the No. 5 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State Thursday night, then the Vikings travel to their cross-town foe Sioux Falls on Saturday. Thursday night's match is slated for a 6 p.m. start while Saturdays serve will be at 2 p.m.

Thursday night's match is Voll-Equality Night where Augustana will recognize Diversity, Equity and Inclusion groups on campus.

The Mustangs
No. 5 SMSU is 19-2 on the season with an 11-2 record in NSIC play. This past weekend the Mustangs swept Northern State (3-0) and MSU Moorhead (3-0). SMSU is currently on a six game winning streak with their last loss being against now No.4 Minnesota Duluth (3-2) in the last weekend of September. 

The Mustangs offense is led by Saari Kuehl with 218 kills, averaging 2.83 a set. The SMSU defense is led by Natalee Rolbiecki with 224 digs and Karli Arkell with 76 blocks. 

The Cougars
Sioux Falls is 12-8 on the season with a 8-5 record in the loop. This past weekend the Cougars fell to Northern State (3-1) and swept MSU Moorhead (3-0). 

The Sioux Falls offense is led by Courtney Holsteen with 207 kills and 224 points. The Cougars defense is led by Sadie Voss with 216 digs and Jordyn Hamm with 68 blocks.

The Vikings
Augustana is coming off a weekend at home where they swept the Beavers of Minot State (3-0) and the Marauders of UMary (3-0). 

Overall, the Vikings are led by senior Maddy Guetter with 242 kills and 303 points. Guetter currently leads the NSIC in both total aces with 43 and aces per set with .57. Following her rank in the NSIC, Guetter is also nationally ranked 21st in aces per set and 18th in total aces. 

The Augustana defense is led by the recent three-time NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, senior Erika Bute, with 381 digs averaging 5.08 a set. Bute continues to be the leader in both total digs and aces per set for the NSIC for the fifth consecutive week. 

The Vikings setter Avery Thorson leads the team in total assists with 731 averaging 10.01 a set. While senior Piper Asche leads the team in total blocks with 70.

One Last Thing
Augustana continues to lead the NSIC in total aces with 81. There are five Vikings with 20 or more aces on the season. Guetter leads with 43, followed by sophomore Jolie Stecher with 26, Bute with 25, senior Kia Kriener with 24 and senior Kate Reimann with 22.
