SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's basketball team ran out of steam to overcome Sioux Falls, falling 69-62 inside the Stewart Center on Thursday night.
Augustana (12-10, 8-10) entered halftime holding a 28-27 lead, with Lauren Sees and Aislinn Duffy contributing nine points apiece in the first 20 minutes of play.
Sioux Falls (15-11, 10-9) would claim the lead by making a 3-pointer off an offensive rebound to take a 30-28 at the 9:43 mark in the third quarter. From that point, the Cougars would sustain the lead for the remainder of the contest.
The Vikings were able to keep the game within reach with a 3-pointer coming from Duffy with 34 seconds left in the third quarter. That would make it a one-point possession at 43-41.
The Vikings had more field goals made, going 8-for-15 to Sioux Falls' 6-for-12 in the fourth quarter. However, the Cougars would get to the foul line 16 times, making 13 shots from the charity stripe, ultimately pushing Sioux Falls past Augustana, 69-62.
Duffy led the Vikings with 19 points while Jennifer Aadland garnered a double-double scoring 13 points to go with a team-leading 14 rebounds.
Sees also accounted for 13 points for Augustana.
The Cougars were led by Krystal Carlson with 17 points while Jemae Nichols had 12 rebounds.
