No. 18 Viking Women’s Tennis Blanks Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 18 Augustana women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep inside GreatLIFE Woodlake in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Vikings swept Minnesota Crookston 7-0 on Saturday night and handled Bemidji State 7-0 on Sunday Morning.

The Vikings are elevated to 15-1 with an unblemished 8-0 ledger in the NSIC. Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-10 overall and 0-9 in the NSIC while Bemidji State moves to 6-5 overall and 3-5 within the conference.

Augustana claimed the doubles point by winning all three matches. The Vikings had a change-up in doubles teams, with Florentia Hadjigeorgiou and Aleksandra Kistanova playing in No. 1 doubles, winning 6-2. Emily Granson and Valeriya Monko claimed No. 2 doubles in 6-1 fashion. Gabriela Jancikova and Laura Arce Vieyra moved to No. 3 doubles, blanking the Beavers, 6-0.

The Vikings put on a clinic in singles play, with six wins, three of which were double bagels.

Arce Vieyra in No. 3 singles, Margarita Chouliara in No. 5 singles and Aleksandra Kistanova in No. 6 singles all won with scores of 6-0, 6-0.

Jancikova was close to a double bagel in No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. 

Hadjigeorgiou took care of business in No. 2 singles with a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Monko won her 12th match in No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-1.

Augustana 7, Bemidji State 0

Augustana had the same lineup in doubles play as the match against Minnesota Crookston. Similarly, the Vikings won all three matches and more unlikely, they did it with the same scores as against the Golden Eagles. Florentia Hadjigeorgiou and Aleksandra Kistnova claimed No. 1 doubles 6-2. Emily Granson and Valeriya Monko won No. 2 doubles 6-1 and Gabriela Jancikova and Laura Arce Vieyra ran away with a 6-0 win in the No. 3 slot.

The Vikings swept singles play with six wins. No. 60 ranked Hadjigeorgiou handed Shaelyn Johnson her first loss of the season, winning 6-2, 6-0.

Kistanova earned the win in No. 6 singles scoring a double bagel.

Jancikova and Margarita Chouliara won No. 4 and No. 5 singles with identical scores of 6-1, 6-0.

Arce Vierya claimed No. 3 singles by way of 6-1, 6-1.

Monko went to three sets before winning in No. 1 singles, besting Sophie Groen 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.

Up Next

Augustana returns to action on Saturday and Sunday welcoming Winona State and Upper Iowa to Sioux Falls. The Vikings face Winona State Saturday at 6 p.m. and return Sunday to host Upper Iowa at 9 a.m.
