CLEVELAND – The Augustana University athletics department has placed seventh in the 2021-22 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup after compiling 693.5 points. The seventh-place finish is the highest official finish since 2013-14 when the Vikings also placed seventh.
"A top-seven finish is a tribute to our student-athletes and their dedication to competitive excellence," Augustana Director of Athletics
Josh Morton said. "I am so proud of them, our coaches and staff for not only winning, but winning the right way. We've stated our goal is to win the Directors' Cup and 2021-22 shows us it can be done. We can't wait for 2022-23."
Augustana, the NSIC All-Sports Champion, is the highest finishing school from the NSIC in the directors' cup standings. Augustana saw 14 sports advance to NCAA postseason action. Eight sports won NSIC Championships and the Vikings produced 37 All-America honors throughout the academic year.
The athletics department at Augustana now owns six top-10 finishes in the annual standings since 1995-96. All six of those top-10 showings have occurred in 2011 and beyond.
To score points, 15 sports are counted in the final Division II standings, four of which must be women's volleyball, women's basketball, men's basketball and baseball. The next highest (11 max) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and
USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
