10/10/2023 3:08:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 22 ranked Augustana football team travels to Winona State on Saturday looking for just its third 7-0 start in program history. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. on the Warriors' homecoming contest.

Complete action can be followed on GoAugie.com/Live and the GoAugie app, presented by The Original Pancake House. The app can be downloaded in the app store or Google Play.

About the Game
Augustana, one of 17 teams in NCAA Division II with a perfect record, last started 7-0 in 2010 with the other season being the perfect 8-0 year in 1937. Winona State bounced back in its last contest to move to 3-3.

About the Warriors
Winona State, a playoff team a year ago, sits at 3-3 on the season while holding a 3-2 mark in NSIC action. After starting the year with a loss in nonconference action at Saginaw Valley State, the Warriors have earned wins over Concordia-St. Paul, Northern State, and most recently, UMary. That was a 17-7 win this past weekend in Bismarck, North Dakota.

The Warriors passing attack is led by Cole Stenstrom with his 1,314 yards and 10 touchdowns. He completes 56.2 percent of his pass attempts with his top receive being Kaleb Skelly and his 31 receptions. Skelly has also hauled in three touchdowns, tied for the team high with Sylvere Campbell. Cair'ron Hendred and Ty Gavin each own two rushing touchdowns as the duo averages 85.2 of the Warriors 117.3 rushing yards per outing.

Clay Schueffner leads the team with 38 tackles. Kyjuan Vengrowsky owns 17 tackles but eight of them have been marked as tackles for loss with a team-best 2.5 sacks.

About the Vikings
Augustana's 6-0 record is one of two unblemished marks in the NSIC. The Vikings are coming off the handling of Southwest Minnesota State by a score of 38-6. Jack Fisher hauled in three receptions for 164 yards while Casey Bauman tossed for three touchdowns and had passes of 82 and 77 yards.

Bauman leads the AU passing attack with 1,578 yards, 16 touchdowns a completion percentage of 67.1 percent. Bauman's passing efficiency ranks him ninth in NCAA Division II. Fisher is AU's leading receiver with 431 yards on the year off of 19 receptions and four touchdowns. Canyon Bauer, with 15 receptions, has hauled in a team-best five touchdowns. Jarod Epperson leads the Vikings' rushing attack with 363 yards, an average of 60.5 per game.

Augustana's defense is balanced with Peyton Buckley serving as the leader with 40 tackles, six pass breakups, an interception and a quarterback hurry. Of his 40 tackles, 29 are solo.
We use this slot every week to talk about Augustana's punting game. Avery Book is putting together quite the All-America campaign with his average of 46.2 yards per punt with nine punts sailing further than 50 yards. He punts at an average of 3.3 times per game while the NCAA mandates to qualify for the stats lead is 3.6 punts per game. If he qualified for the stats leaders, he would rank second in all of NCAA Division II.

One Last Thing
Augustana has made a habit of when not scoring in 3 plays or less (seven times through six games), Augustana has also made a habit of not going 3-and-out when on offense. Augustana has only 10 3-and-out occurrences through six games. Although not an official stat by the NCAA standards, it is believed that mark is among the best in the country – unscientifically researched.
