Jacobs Secures 100th Victory in Win Over Minot State

MINOT, N.D. - The Augustana volleyball team turned the corner on Saturday morning, defeating the Minot State Beavers 25-14, 25-11, 25-21 in the MSU Dome.

The win marks the 100th in the career of head coach Jennifer Jacobs. She becomes the fifth coach in program history to reach the milestone.

Callie Hohenhaus pumped the offense with 14 kills on a .571 hitting percentage. Maya Wente delivered nine kills and three blocks, and Kia Kriener added nine kills and 14 digs. Erika Bute led the back line with 18 digs, while Kiylah Franke tallied nine digs. Lucy Bartee paced the offense with 39 assists.

The Vikings jumped to a 7-1 lead early after a trio of aces and three kills, topped with a Hohenhaus kill. After MiSU closed the gap to five, the Vikings rattled off five straight points to take a 14-4 lead. The Beavers scored five straight points of their own, but the Vikings picked right back off, leading 19-13 before a 6-1 run closed the set and gave AU a 1-0 advantage.

After inching to an early 4-3 lead in set two, the Vikings took control, scoring six of the next seven points to lead 10-4. The Beavers chipped back to trail by just three at 11-8, but AU rattled off a 12-1 run to take a commanding 23-9 lead. The teams split the next four points to close out a 2-0 Viking lead.

Set three saw 12 ties up to the 16-16 mark, as both teams battled through the set. The Vikings scored the next two points to lead 18-16 before nine points were alternated between the teams, cutting the MiSU deficit to 22-21. AU wrapped the match from there, scoring the final three points to close out the sweep.

The Vikings return home Tuesday, hosting SMSU for a non-conference match at 6 p.m., inside the Elmen Center.
