Viking Men’s Basketball Stopped Short at USF, 61-60

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana men's basketball team was on the wrong side of a see-saw battle Saturday in a 61-60 loss to Sioux Falls. The contest totaled 18 lead changes including three in the final 41 seconds.

With the score tied at 56, Jack Thompson scored on a layup to give USF a brief 58-56 advantage with 41 ticks on the clock. The Vikings answered back with Isaac Fink receiving a pass from Jadan Graves, stepping behind the 3 point line and swishing the shot. It turned into a four-point play as Fink was hacked on the play and calmly sank the free throw to give AU the 60-58 lead with 23 seconds remaining.

After a USF timeout, Thompson pushed a shot from the top of the key and got a banked 3-point basket to fall for the game-winning basket.

Fink continued his torrid second half of the season with 22 points and nine rebounds, both game highs, while sinking five 3-point field goals. Graves joined him in double-figure scoring with 13 points while securing seven rebounds and dishing five assists.

The Vikings will now enter the NSIC Tournament as the No. 5 seed in the NSIC South Division with its 11-11 NSIC record and 15-13 mark overall. Augustana, a squad that has won six of its last eight games, travels to NSIC North Division No. 3 seed Bemidji State on Wednesday.
