Augustana Softball Sweeps Central Missouri Monday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Augustana softball team earned a sweep over Central Missouri on Monday winning the doubleheader by scores of 9-4 and 11-3. The wins boost AU's record to 11-8 overall while Central Missouri falls to 16-9.

Ashton Dorman knocked two home runs including a grand slam to aid in the Vikings' victories.

Game One: Augustana 9, Central Missouri 4
Hailey Houston picked up the win in the circle to move to 5-2 on the season as she pitched the complete game. After Central Missouri opened the game with a 2-0 lead, Abby Lien hit a single into center field to score Andrea Cain in the third inning.

The game knotted at 2-2 in the fifth as Liz Dierks crossed home plate on a fielder's choice by Torri Chute.

Two batters later, Ashton Dorman hit a grand slam over the center-field fence to give AU its first lead of the game at 6-2. On the four-base hit, Chute, Lien and Cain all scored.

The Jennies battled back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Augustana added an insurance run in the sixth inning to take the 7-4 victory. The insurance run came from the bat of Lien, scoring Dierks who beat out an infield single. She was advanced to second base thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Cain.

Augustana totaled 11 hits in the game with five batters collecting two each.

Game Two: Augustana 11, Central Missouri 3
The Augustana offense was firing on all cylinders by recording 15 hits and tallying 11 runs in the run-rule victory. In the circle, Lexi Lander picked up her fourth win of the year with the complete game, five-hitter.

Augustana scored five runs in the second inning to take control in the early portion of the game. It was Ashton Dorman that started the offensive spark with a single up the middle to score Torri Chute. Dorman then scored on a single by Sydney Herbert.

The score doubled on an infield single by Andrea Cain as she drove home Herbert and Kennedy Buckman. Cain was then brought up by Abby Lien for the 5-0 advantage.

The Jennies got one run back in the bottom of the second, but AU's offense was in full-steam-ahead mode as three more runs crossed home plate in the top of the third. Herbert doubled in Buckman while Cain doubled in Dierks and Herbert.

The fourth inning saw Dorman launch her second home run of the day, again to center field. Delaney Young, who was on base on a single, was also brought home by the home run.

Augustana's final run came courtesy of a Lien double which scored Cain from second base.

The Jennies did get two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the run-rule was in effect as Augustana prevailed 11-3.

Of Augustana's 15 hits, Herbert and Cain each recorded three hits. Cain led the way with four RBI while Dorman recorded three.

Gracey Brink, holding nearly a .500 batting average, wasn't given much to hit as she was 1-for-2 with two walks.
