ROLLA, MO. – An eight-run sixth inning pushed the Augustana softball team to a 12-6 victory Wednesday over Missouri S&T in Rolla, Missouri. The Vikings and Miners were only able to play one game of the scheduled doubleheader due to a late start due to wet field conditions and darkness setting in.

Augustana moves to 7-6 with the win while Missouri S&T falls to 8-10.

Although Augustana never trailed, the game wasn't sealed until the eight-run inning as the Vikings held a 4-3 advantage entering the frame. The four runs came from a leadoff home run by
Andrea Cain with a second run crossing the plate in the first inning thanks to a single from
Torri Chute. The score moved to 3-0 in the fourth inning with
Delaney Young crossing home plate on a wild pitch.

The fourth run broke a 3-3 tie as
Abby Lien singled up the middle to plate
Gracey Brink.

That led AU to the sixth inning where
Gracey Brink hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score
Sydney Herbert from third base. Chute picked up two RBI on a double down the left-field line to score Cain and
Liz Dierks.

After a pitching change by the home team, Young punched a double into center field to score Lien and Chute making the game 9-3.
Ashton Dorman made it three-straight doubles for AU as she hit the ball to left-center. AU added two more runs in the inning with singles from
Nicole Bellis and Dierks.

By the time the damage was done, it was a 12-3 Augustana lead. The Miners would add three more runs over the final two innings leading to the final 12-6 score.

Augustana racked up 17 hits on the day with three each from Young and Dorman. Chute recorded three RBI on her 2-for-4 day.

Helene Krage picked up the win with five innings of three-hit ball while
Lexi Lander tossed the final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

Up Next
Augustana's series at Rockhurst has been postponed to March 19 after originally being slated to take place Thursday. The Vikings will now be back in action on Friday, March 17 at the Missouri Western Tournament in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Vikings will face Northwest Missouri State at noon and Bemidji State (nonconference) at 4 p.m.
