SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head wrestling coach
Jason Reitmeier has announced the addition of Jackson, Minnesota, native Caleb Vancura to the 2023-24 roster. Vancura went 48-3 as a senior while helping Jackson County Central to a Minnesota State Championship. In addition, he was the state champion at 220 pounds his senior season.Â
Â
"We are excited to welcome Caleb and his parents to our Augustana wrestling family," Reitmeier said. "Caleb comes from a winning program with great tradition. He is coming off a great season and an outstanding summer. Caleb continues to get better each year.
Â
"He was a standout in football and track & field, showing he is a great athlete. I'm excited to see how high his potential is once he focuses on just wrestling."
Â
For his career, he compiled a record of 182-61 but over his final three years of high school, he won 129 matches against just 14 losses. He is a two-time Big South Conference Champion while earning a spot on the Minnesota All-Tournament Team on several occasions.
Â
Jackson County won a pair of state championships while Vancura was a captain. In all, Vancura was a six-year starter on varsity while serving as a team captain his sophomore through senior seasons.
Â
In addition, Vancura was a member of the Minnesota Storm Cadet Greco National Championship team in 2021 while also earning a finalist spot in the Northern Plains in freestyle.
Â
While at Augustana, Vancura plans to earn his degree in environmental studies.
