Viking Women's Hoops Falls At SCSU

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Augustana women's basketball team fell 76-58 to St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon inside Halenbeck Hall.

The Vikings fall to 5-12 overall and 4-9 in NSIC action, while St. Cloud jumps to 10-6, 7-5.

Michaela Jewett scored 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field while grabbing four rebounds for AU. Lauren Sees netted 13 points and dished four assists. Jennifer Aadland added eight points, and Izzy Moore scored seven points while grabbing four offensive rebounds off the bench. 

The Vikings opened the game on fire, knocking down 8 of 10 from the field in the first quarter to help take a 19-16 lead into the second. Jewett scored seven points to lead all scorers in the early going, and the Vikings led by as many as six at 11-5. 

The Huskies took a two point lead within the first two minutes of the second quarter before Moore drove to the basket and converted an and-one to reclaim the lead at 22-21 with 6:29 to go until halftime. 

The game continued to see balance in the final 6:29 of the first half. A CJ Adamson free throw with 2:56 remaining tied the game at 23-23, but the Huskies scored six of the final eight points to take a 29-25 lead into the locker room.

That run would expand to open the second half, as SCSU lead expanded to 40-27 with 7:09 left in the third quarter. The lead crept to 15, but an Adamson 3-pointer cut the AU deficit to 47-35 with 3:27 til the fourth quarter. 

The Huskies didn't stop there, adding a 10-4 run to close the third quarter and take a 57-39 lead into the fourth. 

Sees opened the fourth quarter scoring with a 3-pointer and a pair of Jewett free throws brought the Vikings within 57-44 with 8:31 to play. The Huskies slowly increased the lead by matching AU 2-pointers with 3-pointers to lead 72-52 midway through the quarter. The Vikings went on a 6-0 run in the next three minutes, but the Huskies scored the final four points of the game to bring the game to its final score. 

Augustana returns home on Thursday, hosting Minot State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., at the Sanford Pentagon.
