Viking Soccer Downs USF Sunday Afternoon

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana soccer team (7-4-2, 6-2-1 NSIC) scored a 2-1 win over Sioux Falls Sunday afternoon in a cross-town affair. Macie Haggerty and Ally Hamski netted goals in the win for the Vikings.

Augustana edged out the Cougars in shots 16-11 and made the most of shots on goal with 10 to USF's 7. Taya Baker had a strong outing in the cage with six saves. 

Madelyn White led the Vikings in shots with four and had three on goal. Nine Vikings recorded shots in Sunday's match.

SHOT (AU) 8' - Sierra Barkus recorded the game's first shot with a ball placed towards the upper bar but was stopped by Caroline Titze.

SHOT (AU) 16' - Augustana tallied its second shot on goal with White's shot. 

Goal (AU) 16' - Haggerty broke the stalemate with a powerful shot from beyond the box that went past the Cougars keeper's outstretched arm. 

SHOT (USF) 18' - Baker came up big with her first save of the afternoon that was headed towards the lower right corner. 

SHOT (AU) 23' - White, Sydney Hage and Audrey Parnell all found scoring opportunities in the 23rd minute.

SHOT (AU) 26' - White had her second shot on goal stopped by Titze.

SHOT (USF) 34' - Addison Van Zee missed high of the net.

SHOT (AU) 42' - Hamski recorded a shot on goal that was destined for the left corner.

SHOT (AU) 43' - Hamski missed just left of the bar.

GOAL (USF) 48' - Mariah Smith tied the match off a pass from Sarah Miller. 

GOAL (AU) 56' - Augustana was awarded a penalty kick after Sioux Falls was dinged with a foul in the box. Hamski took the penalty kick for the Vikings and netted the go-ahead goal with a shot to the bottom left. 

SHOT (USF) 58' - Baker stayed strong between the pipes for Augustana with another save from a Cougar shot that was headed to the back of the net.

SHOTS (USF) 87' - USF amped up the offensive pressure in the final minutes of play but couldn't find an answer to Baker's goalkeeping.
