SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head men's basketball coach
Cody Schilling has announced a trio of additions on National Signing Day. Riley Johnson, CJ Armstrong and Markus Talley have signed their national letters of intent to play for the Vikings in the 2025-26 season.
"I am extremely excited about the three players that we are adding today on signing day," said Schilling. "We feel as if our backcourt has taken a good step forward. To add these three talented players to our 2024 class of freshmen and transfers, we feel as if we have laid a really solid foundation to grow and build upon moving forward. All three of them are great student-athletes and will represent us extremely well on and off the basketball court. Augustana Men's Basketball got better today!"
Riley Johnson | Guard | 6'4 | Chanhassen, Minn. | Chanhassen | Minnesota Select
Schilling on Johnson: "Riley Johnson is a phenomenal 3-point shooter. His ability to score the ball and space the court is extremely valuable. Riley is a big time competitor and a guy who does whatever it takes for his team to win and be successful. Riley is a gym rat and is just scratching the surface on the player that he can be on both ends of the floor. We are excited for Riley and his family to join the Augustana Men's Basketball family."
High School: Johnson goes into his senior season after posting 23.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 2.2 assists per game as a junior. He was a Metro West All-Conference honoree and broke the school record with 88 three-point field goals made. Johnson also joined the 1000 career point club. He continued his strong junior season with 31-plus points in eight games. Outside of high school, Johnson plays for Minnesota Select.
Personal: Riley is the son of Steve and Rachelle Johnson. He has three siblings, Delaney, Brian and Ben.
CJ Armstrong | Guard | 6'4 | Richfield, Minn. | Richfield | D1 Minnesota
Schilling on Armstrong: "CJ is a do it all scorer and a versatile defender. CJ's ability to score at all 3 levels as well as defend at a high level will add lots of value to our program. CJ is a combo guard and will have the ability to play and guard the 1-3. CJ is a tireless worker and an extremely skilled athlete. We look forward to helping CJ continue to grow his game and improve on the court. We are excited to have CJ and his family joining ours here at Augustana."
High School: A combo guard out of Richfield High School, Armstrong had back-to-back 50-plus point games in a junior season that saw him average 32 points per game. He hit the 1800 career point mark in a season that saw Richfield go 16-12 and clinch a birth in the first round of the playoffs. He was named the Tri-Metro Player of the Year and was a first-team all-conference honoree.
Personal: Calvin is the son of Brandon and Kayleigh Armstrong. He has four siblings, Briah, Ky'leigh, Maliah and Braelyn. He plans to major in Business.
Markus Talley | Guard | 6'2 | Mitchell, S.D. | Mitchell
Schilling on Talley: "Markus is an extremely high IQ point guard with the ability to score at 3 levels while also making his teammates better. Markus plays under control and it seems like defenses can never speed him up or get him rattled. He is a winner, a big time competitor and the ultimate teammate. We are extremely excited to have Markus and his family joining the Augustana Men's Basketball family."
High School: Talley goes into his senior season after posting 17.3 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.4 steals per game as a junior. In the same season, he was named first-team all-state, first-team all-conference, Daily Republic Player of the Year, and a runner-up for Midco Sports Player of the Year. He helped lead his team to a 23-1 state championship season.
Personal: Markus is the son of Kevin and Katrina Talley. He has two siblings, Nia and Cam.
