MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Augustana men's basketball program knocked off No. 8 MSU Moorhead on its home floor Saturday evening, 83-76. The win marked Augustana's second ranked victory of the season.
Augustana moves to 16-10 overall and 11-9 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead falls to 22-4, 16-4.
In a similar fashion to Friday's contest, the first half was a back-and-forth affair with a tight halftime score that saw AU behind 35-33.
Augustana took its first lead of the second half on an
Isaac Fink layup with 16:01 remaining in the game at 45-44.
Jadan Graves pushed the advantage to three on a jumper. The two squads continued to battle with tie scores at 55, 57, and 59-all.
Arhman Lewis broke the ties with a 3-point basket with 9:07 to go in the game. Fink then made a fast-break layup to push the lead to five points.
The Dragons never regained the lead in the remainder of the contest but were able to cut the deficit to a single basket on three occasions. Augustana answered back every time including with 1:20 on the clock as Fink sank a turnaround jumper.
After the Vikings' defense forced a missed 3-point attempt,
Caden Hinker secured the rebound and was sent to the foul line. He sank both free throws to push the advantage to six points.
The final point of the game came courtesy of
Akoi Akoi to make the score 83-76 as the Vikings handed MSU Moorhead its fourth loss of 2023-24.
Fink led AU with 21 points while Hinker added 18 points.
Caden Kirkman and Graves each added 12 points apiece. Graves dished eight assists while Lewis had six.
Augustana returns to the Sanford Pentagon for Alumni and Senior Weekend on Friday and Saturday hosting Northern State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the Vikings host UMary at 5:30 p.m.
