Viking Softball Takes Down No. 18 Pittsburg State

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Augustana softball team saw another masterful performance from Grace Glanzer as the Vikings topped No. 18 Pittsburg State, 6-0, on Friday at the Washburn Invitational. In the day's earlier contest, AU fell 2-0 to Missouri Western.

Game One: Missouri Western 2, Augustana 0
In a scoreless battle, the Griffons score the only two runs of the game in the third inning. Kaylea Fessler singled up the middle and scored on a double by Bubba Hoeslcher. Hoelscher was then pushed home on a single by Taylor Jones in back-to-back at-bats.

Lexi Lander took over in the circle in the fourth inning a allowed just one baserunner the remainder of the game with the Vikings on defense. However, Sydney Rader held Augustana in check on offense, scattering six hits over seven innings.

Of the six hits, two came from the bat of Ashton Dorman while the other four came from Andrea Cain, Desi Cuevas, Nicole Bellis and Ella Cooper.

Game Two: Augustana 6, No. 18 Pittsburg State 0
Grace Glanzer pitched seven shutout innings while striking out nine to continue her nation's best 0.00 ERA through five appearances in 2024. She allowed just two hits and zero walks to move her record to 4-1.

While Glanzer was setting down batter-after-batter, the Vikings offense awoke to the tune of 11 hits with a 3-for-4 effort from Ashton Dorman. In addition, Nicole Bellis and Desi Cuevas each recorded two hits apiece.

Gracey Brink got the scoring started in the second inning as she singled to second base to score Liz Dierks. Dierks was on base after hitting a sharp single to the pitcher. Desi Cuevas hit a home run into right-center field in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead.

Kennedy Buckman then hit home run to lead off the third inning, her third home run of the season.

Keeping with the long-ball theme, Nicole Bellis smashed a home run to center field to make it 4-0. Bellis then followed in the sixth inning with a bases-clearing triple for what would be the final 6-0 score.
