SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day Saturday at the Sanford Pentagon while seeing its season continue in the NSIC Tournament on Wednesday. The Vikings dropped their regular-season finale, 72-54, to UMary.
Prior to the game, the three seniors of
Michaela Jewett,
Kenzie Rensch and
Lauren Sees were honored with their last game of the regular season on Heritage Court in the Sanford Pentagon.
In the game itself, Sees tallied 17 points while
Jennifer Aadland recorded a double-double of 14 rebounds and 13 points.
Late in the second quarter, with the Vikings trailing 28-15, AU went on a 10-0 run to enter the intermission with momentum. The run started with an Aadland trey and she followed with back-to-back jumpers to make the score 28-22 with 1:15 remaining.
CJ Adamson then scored on an old-fashioned 3-point play to bring the halftime score to 28-25.
A layup by Jewett to open the third quarter pulled AU within a single digit but the Marauders pushed back and held a nine-point advantage at 37-28 midway through the quarter. At the end of the third, UMary led 45-36.
As the fourth quarter progressed, the Marauders built on their lead and the final concluded at 72-54.
Augustana will travel to Southwest Minnesota State for the First Round of the NSIC Tournament on Wednesday. Tipoff is at a time to be announced.
