SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The dominance of
Grace Glanzer continued on Friday afternoon as she tossed a no-hitter to send the Augustana softball team to the NSIC Championship game. The Vikings (44-13) defeated MSU Moorhead (33-19) 5-0.
Glanzer recorded seven strikeouts, eight ground outs, and six fly outs to cap off her second game in a row without a hit. After a perfect game on Thursday afternoon, Glanzer walked the first batter she faced before recording 21 straight outs.
AU scattered seven hits from seven different hitters, five of which went for extra bases.
Kennedy Buckman,
Torri Chute,
Ashton Dorman and
Nicole Bellis smacked doubles and
Stella Harber hit a home run to accumulate the offense.
Gracey Brink scored a pair of runs and Harber had a pair of RBI.
The Vikings struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to open the scoring. Brink opened the inning with a single and got all the way to third after a fielding error.
Bellis drove a one out double to the left center gap to bring home Brink and open the scoring at 1-0.
Ella Cooper entered as a pinch runner for Bellis, but didn't get to spend too much time on the bases. Harber hit a rocket over the center field fence on the first pitch she saw to grow the lead to 3-0.
A two-out rally in the fifth inning added a pair of insurance runs for the AU bats. After a pair of groundouts, Chute doubled and Brink reached on an infield error that allowed Chute to wheel around and score.
After Brink stole second base, Dorman put the offensive exclamation point on the game with a double down the right field line to bring her home and bring the game to its final score.
In the final two innings, Glanzer struck out three batters to complete the 85 pitch no-hitter.
