SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana football and basketball radio play-by-play voice Jeff Fylling has announced he will take a season away from the mic in 2024-25 while battling a health issue. Augustana Vice President for Athletics Josh Morton has named JJ Hartigan the radio play-by-play voice for football and men's and women's basketball on KXRB 100.1 in an interim capacity.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to be the radio voice of Augustana football, women's basketball and men's basketball the last 41 years," said Fylling. "I never considered play-by-play work; I considered it a dream come true. I take pride in never missing an Augustana football game and only missing a few men's basketball games when doing late season football."

Fylling has called 430 football games and over 1,600 basketball games across 41 seasons with Augustana. He has been on the call for two NSIC championship football seasons, including the first outright conference championship since 1959, and seven NSIC titles across men's and women's basketball.

"When you think of the great moments in Augustana football and basketball history, Jeff called them all and Viking fans heard about it from his eyes," said Vice President for Athletics Josh Morton. "Jeff means so much more to Augustana Athletics than simply the "Voice of the Vikings" and all of us have him in our thoughts and prayers as he takes a step away from the microphone."

In his 41 seasons, Fylling has seen 34 NCAA tournament appearances between football, men's basketball and women's basketball and was on the call for the 2013 Women's Final Four team and the 2016 Men's National Championship basketball team.

Hartigan will add radio to his Augustana responsibilities for the 2024-25 football and basketball seasons. He has called Augustana home games for both on the NSIC Network and currently serves as the Director of Media and Community Outreach for the Sioux Falls Storm.

"I'm incredibly honored for the opportunity to step into the role of play-by-play broadcaster for Augustana University Football and Men's and Women's Basketball," said Hartigan. "Jeff Fylling is a true legend, and no one can replace the legacy he's built over the years at Augustana."

A Sioux Falls native, Hartigan has been all over the area, serving as a broadcaster for the Sioux Falls Canaries from 2014-17 and as lead analyst for the 2021 NSIC and Summit League baseball tournaments on Midco Sports Network. He has also helped with production on several ESPN and CBS Sports Network broadcasts in the area. For four years, Hartigan served as the radio broadcaster for South Dakota State women's basketball, three of which ended in the NCAA Tournament.

"I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and will strive to uphold the high standards of professionalism and excellence that Jeff has brought to Vikings radio broadcasts," Hartigan said. "My goal is to continue the tradition of delivering top-quality coverage that our fans have come to expect."
