NAMPA, I.D. – Augustana volleyball dropped its final match of the NNU Nighthawk Invitational in a three-set loss to Colorado School of Mines 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.
Following another weekend of tournament action, the Vikings currently sit with a 4-4 record on the 2024 season.
Reagan Jansen led the attack with 11 kills as
Maya Wente (.444 hitting percentage) and
Kiylah Franke each added nine kills.
Lucy Bartee dished out 36 assists and
Ellie Walker and
Lucy Cogan tallied 10 digs apiece.
The Vikings totaled 41 kills with 49 digs and five blocks.
Set one opened with the Orediggers quickly jumping to a 6-2 lead. Augustana responded to cut it to a two-point differential, but Mines pushed it back to six. The Vikings fought to make it a 17-14 game and force a timeout, but the Orediggers offensive fought off any sort of run from Augustana. Despite again making it a three-point game, the set went to Mines, 25-20.
The Orediggers went on a 5-1 run to take the 11-5 lead early on in set two. Back-to-back-to-back Vikings points suddenly made it a three-point game, but Mines pushed it even further, eventually taking the 20-12 advantage. Augustana pieced together another small run but the set ended 25-17.
Augustana tied the third set up at seven apiece early on, but Mines came back strong and scored the next nine points. Despite being down 20-11, the Vikings fought back and strung together a 4-0 run to cut the lead to three. But the Orediggers took the next two points to close it, 25-20.
NSIC competition is set to begin for the Viking volleyball team with scheduled contests against UMary in Bismarck on Friday and at Minot State on Saturday.
