WINONA, Minn. – The Augustana volleyball team (8-7 overall, 2-5 NSIC) fell to Winona State (9-5 overall, 4-2 NSIC) Saturday night in three sets, 25-19, 29-27, 25-23.
Maya Wente led the Vikings with a match-high 13 kills while also adding two blocks.
Brooke Berens added 11 kills and
Lucy Belisle garnered seven.
Kiylah Franke collected 33 assists.
Augustana opened up the first set with multiple two-point runs to make it 8-4. Winona State answered back before a service ace from
Lucy Cogan capped a four-point run to make it a 12-7 lead. The Warriors gained momentum midway through the set and shifted the score to 23-18. WSU momentum continued to secure the first set, 25-19.
Winona State opened up set two with a spark of momentum and pushed its lead to 8-2. Augustana clawed back and tied the set at 16-16 with a four-point run capped by a kill from Belisle. WSU answered back with a four-point run before both teams exchanged points to make it a 22-18 lead for the Warriors. Augustana answered with a five-point run and regained the lead, 23-22. Berens added a kill to bring the match to 25-25. Winona State delivered the final dagger and secured set two, 29-27.
Both teams fought back and forth in the beginning of the third set before the Warriors carried the momentum from sets one and two and led 13-9. Augustana answered with two four-point runs and made the match 21-20 in favor of the Vikings. A three-point and two-point run from the Warriors secured the win, 25-23.

Augustana returns to the Elmen Center next weekend for two conference matches. Augustana faces St. Cloud State on Friday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 11, against Minnesota State at 5 p.m.
