SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana volleyball opened Friday night with an impressive first-set win, but Northern State responded with three straight strong frames as the Vikings fell 3–1 inside the Elmen Center.
Augustana was led offensively by
Maya Wente, who totaled 11 kills on a .321 hitting percentage and added two block assists for a team-high 12 points.
Lucy Belisle followed with nine kills and six digs, while
Reagan Jansen chipped in seven kills and reached double-digit digs with 10, anchoring the serve-receive line with a .979 efficiency on 46 attempts. In the middle,
Sydney Tims provided six kills on a .357 clip and added two blocks, while
Brooke Berens contributed four kills and three block assists. Libero
Gabby Jones paced the defense with 15 digs and delivered AU's lone ace of the night.
Augustana finished the match with 41 kills on a .078 hitting percentage, adding 38 assists, 89 digs, and 5.0 total blocks. The Vikings recorded one service ace while maintaining a strong .957 reception percentage across four sets.
Augustana delivered a sharp opening set, hitting .191 with 15 kills to take a tightly contested 25–23 victory. Belisle, Wente, and Berens all produced early scoring swings, while libero Jones steadied the back row with a perfect reception line. The set featured 14 ties and five lead changes before Berens closed it with the final kill.
Northern State flipped the match quickly in the second set, overwhelming the Vikings with a .417 hitting percentage and 11 kills.
Northern State sealed the match with a 25–15 fourth-set win, using a late 5–0 run to close out the night. Augustana found sparks defensively—highlighted by blocks from Berens and Tims—but the Wolves' balanced offense proved too much down the stretch.
