Viking Men's Basketball Concludes Regular Season in Minot

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana men's basketball team closes the regular season on Thursday at Minot State. The Vikings will take on the Beavers at 5:30 p.m.

About the Beavers
Minot State was picked to finish 10th in the NSIC and currently rank eighth with a record of 21-8 overall, 12-8 in the NSIC. The Beavers ranked as high as No. 4 nationally earlier this season.

Individually, the Beavers have gotten National Player of the Year-like production from Caleb Van De Griend. The junior from Australia leads the country in double-doubles (22), field goal percentage (72.5 percent) and rebounds per game (13.1) and averages 20.1 points per game.

About the Vikings
Augustana is 11-16 overall and 8-13 in the NSIC after splitting the final two home games of the season. The Vikings are 11th in the NSIC and in-line for a first round NSIC Tournament game on the road.

Tanner Te Slaa holds the team lead with 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game with 66 made 3-pointers. He also leads the NSIC shooting 38.2 percent from deep and 86.1 percent free throw percentage.

Akoi Akoi is second on the Vikings with 13.7 points per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field. He is also second on the team with 69 assists, an 81.5 free throw percentage and 17 blocks.

Sam Rensch adds 12.2 points per game and 1.6 steals per game while providing havoc to a defense that ranks third in the NSIC in turnover margin.

Tameron Ferguson continues to grow into his own while running the point for the Vikings. Ferguson has scored in double figures for the 12 times in his last 17 games. He scored a career-best 25 points against Concordia-St. Paul on Dec. 14 and had a career-high nine assists on Feb. 11 against Sioux Falls.

The true freshman is fourth on the team with 9.8 points per game and has facilitated well, holding a 93/29 assist/turnover ratio. Ferguson ranks first in the NSIC and 10th nationally with a 3.21 assist/turnover ratio.

In his first season of action, Bennett Fried has already shown growth. The redshirt freshman is averaging 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. In 18 games since entering the starting lineup, Fried is averaging 8.9 points and a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game while shooting at a 57.4 percent clip.

Against No. 13 SMSU on Jan. 30, Jack Hastreiter had a career night from deep to power the win. He scored a career-high 24 points on 8 of 9 shooting, including 7 of 7 from deep. Hastreiter had the second most makes without a miss in program history.

Kelton Coleman has been the microwave off the bench for the Vikings. The sophomore has scored double digits seven times this season, including a season-high 19 in 22 minutes against Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 8. He is sixth on the team with 6.9 points per game.

Series History
Augustana and Minot State will match up for the 12th time all-time with the Vikings holding an 6-5 advantage. AU broke a five game losing streak with a 77-67 win last January but fell 82-77 at home earlier this season.
