Four Vikings Earn All-America Distinction in Day One Action

3/14/2025 9:10:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Four Viking wrestlers have claimed All-American status in the first day of the NCAA DII National Championship competition, with two still on the hunt for national titles.

Jaxson Rohman earned his third consecutive All-America honor in the consolation rounds of the 125-pound bracket. The senior kicked things off in convincing fashion, pinning Bryce Beatty of Millersville in 1:43, before falling to the No. 6 seed in the quarterfinals. He bounced back in the second consolation round and took down Nathan Smith with a 6-3 decision. He's set to face Colton Drousias of Glenville State in the third consolation round.

At 149, Cael Larson became a first-time All-American after collecting two wins and qualifying for his bracket semifinals. He started Friday action with a 7-3 decision over Jake Piccirilli of UNC Pembroke to move on to the quarterfinals. Facing Chad Ozias of Pitt.-Johnstown, Larson took the lead but it didn't seem to matter much, as he ended it with a pin in 6:31 to claim the All-America honor. He'll face No. 6 Dean Noble in the semifinals.

Also in the semifinals is Cade Mueller, who at 184 pounds became an All-American with back-to-back wins on the day. He collected a gritty 2-0 decision against Noah Gnibus of Pitt.-Johnstown and was set up to face quite the familiar foe in Reece Worachek of Parkside. Like the two previous bouts this season, the quarterfinal match again forced overtime and, like the two previous bouts this season, Mueller emerged victorious with a 4-1 sudden victory and his 100th career win. The All-American is set for top-ranked Ty McGeary of West Liberty.

Max Ramberg collected his second straight All-America honor in the blood rounds after fighting his way back from a quarterfinal loss. He took down Wyatt Miller of Grand Valley State to start the day but soon fell to the No. 5 seed. The second consolation round pitted him against Wayne McIntyre of Kutztown where he took the 10-4 decision to secure a podium finish. Ramberg will take on conference foe No. 1 Dominic Murphy in the third consolation round.
