Vikings Knock Off Golden Eagles In Friday Action

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana baseball team won its third straight game on Friday afternoon, knocking off Minnesota Crookston 9-5 in NSIC action at Ronken Field.

The Vikings move to 12-6 overall, 7-2 in the NSIC while the Golden Eagles fall to 7-12, 4-5.

Jack Hines went 3 for 4 with two RBI, Joshua Koskie added three hits and three runs scored and Bjorn Lind added three hits to lead the offense. Sam Siegel hit a double and a home run while scoring two runs and Ryan Clementi added two hits of his own.

Ethan Cole was dealt a no decision after allowing three runs, including two earned, and striking out nine. Maddox Foss earned his first career victory after striking out four and allowing two runs in 2 2/3 innings. Aidan Torpey entered in the ninth and got the final two outs to close it out.

The Golden Eagles struck early, knocking a double off the pitcher's leg to score the first run of the game. Cole buckled in, getting a strikeout and flyout to end the inning and keep UMC at a run.

The one run stood as the only offense until the Vikings got rolling in the bottom of the third. Sam Siegel doubled and Joshua Koskie singled to get runners on the corners to lead off the inning.

Bjorn Lind followed with a double bring in Siegel and Koskie came in on a back-pick attempt off his helmet that leaked into the outfield. Lind made his way around after a Kobe Eikmeier groundout for the second out allowed him to score and gave AU a 3-1 lead.

The game restarted after a Golden Eagle run in the fifth and sixth evened the score at 3-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sam Siegel sent a two-run rocket over the left field wall to reclaim the lead at 5-3. With two outs, Jack Hines added to the lead with a two-run single to double the lead at 7-3.

UMC added a run to get within three before the Vikings put the game away. Troy Berg led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt.

After moving to third on a groundout, Koskie dug out an infield single to bring him home. Lind followed with a single and Winterstein beat out a single of his own to put the Vikings ahead 9-4. The Golden Eagles scored a run in the ninth, but it would be too little, too late.

The two teams will meet again Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., at Ronken Field.
