SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana baseball team dropped its first conference series of the season on Sunday, falling 4-1 in the rubber match against Minnesota State at Ronken Field.
The Vikings move to 31-14 overall and 25-10 in the NSIC while the Mavericks move to 39-5, 31-4.
Trevor Winterstein had two hits and a stolen base while
Jason Axelberg and
Bjorn Lind had a hit apiece.
Jack Hines had a walk and a stolen base.
Ethan Cole (4-4) went 6 1/3 innings while allowing three runs on five hits, striking out five.
Aidan Torpey capped the final 2 2/3 with two strikeouts and a run on two hits.
There was no score until the fifth inning when the Mavericks scored a pair in the top of the inning.
Joshua Koskie drew a leadoff walk and Clementi was hit by a pitch with nobody out. After two outs, Winterstein reached on an infield single and an error allowed Koskie to score to bring AU within 2-1.
The Mavericks scored a run in the seventh and one more in the eighth inning to bring the game to its final score.
The Vikings close their home slate on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader against Northern State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
